NTSP Physician, Dr. Omar Selod, gives back to North Texas residents

Tough economic times have impacted the lives of many North Texans. The ones that may be affected the most are those requiring medical care but can’t afford it. NTSP physician, Dr. Omar Selod, has found a way through his PMR Charity to help those who are in financial straits to get the healthcare they need.

PMR Charity was founded in 2003 by Dr. Selod after he began to see an increase in the number of patients who were either without necessary medical equipment, unable to pay their medical bills or forgoing medical procedures due to financial constraints. PMR Charity’s mission is to assist families and individuals who have experienced an illness, trauma or unexpected hardship in the North Texas area.

From special shoes for a patient living in a nursing home to mortgage and car payments for someone suffering from leukemia, the number of requests for help is increasing as the word spreads about this charity’s work. “The more people we can help, the better,” said Dr. Selod. The charity’s largest fundraising event is the Tashard Choice Golf Classic. The Dallas Cowboys’ running back became involved with the charity back in 2010 and hosts an annual golf tournament to help raise funds. This year’s event raised thousands of dollars that will assist other charities and North Texas individuals and families in need.

Dr. Selod is a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician with PM&R Physicians of North Texas. When he is not busy seeing patients and being actively involved with his charity, he enjoys spending time with his family and coaching his daughter’s soccer team. Dr. Selod is a huge sports fanatic and those who know him today would not guess that he grew up a shy kid from Kansas.
